2013 Reading Statistics

I finished my last book of 2013 at about 4pm New Years Eve - PLENTY of time!  So now I can take a look at my reading statistics for the year.  One very important thing to point out is that I took TWO literature classes this calendar year - Children's Lit and Young Adult Lit.  I read a lot of books between these two classes, and I liked a lot of them.  While I have always enjoyed YA books, I definitely feel more open to them.  I expect I will continue to read them regularly.... as well as Children's and Middle Grade books.  After all, I work in the Children's Room at the library - I need to know what I'm talking about so I can recommend the right books to the right readers!  But this reading trend for me has affected other interests, and I'm afraid I may be a little behind in my Classics Club Reading.  Let's see what the numbers say though, shall we?

According to GoodReads, I read 209 books which translates to 34,991 pages in 2013.

I completed the required portion of my Back to the Classics Challenge!  Didn't quite finish the optional portion, but I think I sort of expected that.

6/6 Required
2/5 Optional

I didn't do so well in Roof Beam Reader's 2013 TBR Pile Challenge either.  I still signed up again for next year as I'm glad I did accomplish some of what I set out to do:

4/12 plus 1 DNF
1/2 alternates

I officially expanded my Classics Club list to an "even" 100 titles to read (and trust me, I'm always finding more I'd like to add - but I am finally showing restraint).

Currently Read: 19 of first 50 titles

This means I read 8 titles off my list this year, which really isn't so bad at all.

Perpetual Challenge; 1,001 Books You Must Read Before You Die

I have currently read 71 books from the list, which means that I read a measly 5 books this year.  Need to work on that I think.  Though I have doubled my total over the past 3 years, so there is that.

So there we have it...  I guess I'm not doing as poorly on my long term goals as I thought!  That is a happy surprise!  I hope that you are similarly pleased with your reading this year.  Now, on to some great reads in 2014!

Happy New Year!

When I read about your reading accomplishments for the year I feel I fall extremely short! AMAZING! How you ever found the time while taking classes too!

Happy New Year!

Congratulations on a great reading year!

And if challenges were easy to meet, they wouldn't be challenges, right? Way to set goals that are hard to reach!
