Book Review: "Allegiant" by Veronica Roth

We pick up right where Insurgent left off - maybe hours have passed, but that's it.  Evelyn has taken control of the city, but the secret message and the truth that Tris unleashed has created a rift in the population:  those that believe in Evelyn and destroy all factions, and those who want to go beyond the fence and reach the rest of the world.  Tris and Four know they need to get out of town - it isn't safe in the city anymore, and they both just want a new start with each other.  But where they end up has its own set of dark secrets, and may not be much better than the city to begin with.  Is there a way to set everything right so they can get on with their lives - hopefully with more love and a whole lot less violence?

And now - what the hell just happened?  I feel completely broken inside after reading this...  like my heart and hope just got ripped from me.  This was not the ending I was expecting AT ALL.  I hate everything about it, except how it was written.  As much as I wanted something different, what happened was at least written very well.  I need to get over my own heartbreak though...  I really loved this series and these characters far more than I had ever expected to.

This book is told from both Tris & Four's viewpoints in alternating chapters.  I didn't really expect that, but I appreciated the chance to see things from Four's perspective.  Of course, this also opens up his faults as well as his virtues... and I was so frustrated with him at times.  But I was really proud of him at other times...  Tris as well.  She changes a lot in this book - she seems more intelligent, more perceptive than usual - like she's really coming into her own.  I just love her.

And that's all I can really say now.  I think I need to go cry some more.
